For High Net Worth or Sophisticated Investors becoming a Business Angel offers new opportunities for investment.

The role of the Business Angel varies from investment to investment – some Angels prefer very active involvement whereas others choose to assist from afar. As well as hoping to enjoy capital growth or a regular income stream from their investment, Angels can also benefit from various income, capital gains and inheritance tax incentives. In addition to the financial motivation, there is also the attraction of ‘giving something back’ to the business community, and the thrill of being involved in an entrepreneurial business venture.

Successful ventures can yield significant returns to the Business Angel. Businesses seeking angel investment are usually of an early stage, high growth nature. As well as investing money, Business Angels are often encouraged to also offer their experience, skills and contacts to the business.

What we do

Critchleys Corporate Finance team regularly advise early stage businesses across all sectors seeking Business Angel finance, and also work with Business Angels considering investments. Through our extensive network of professional contacts we keep ourselves informed of new business and investor opportunities.

As a result of our experiences and links we have decided to set up Critchleys Business Angel Community – the aim of this is to link early stage businesses with investors and also create a community of like-minded investors who can meet, network and share experiences with each other.

Aim of the Community

• Promote angel investing and supporting early stage investment in Oxfordshire and the UK
• Provide a forum for business angels, encouraging integration and the opportunity to share good practice, industry know-how, past experience and details of investment opportunities with each other
• Create links between business angels to enable new syndicate opportunities– potentially expediting future investments
• Encourage networking between business angels and other sources of finance
• Provide points of contact within Critchleys who are able to offer expert tax, financial planning and corporate finance advice

What the Network offers business angels:

• An opportunity to meet and get to know other business angels in the Oxfordshire area, in an informal and private setting. Our intention is that the community will be exclusive and that other professionals (lawyers, accountants etc) will not be eligible for membership of the Network, and will only attend if participating in a relevant presentation
• An opportunity to attend high profile events (for example topical debates, case studies of past investments (with input from both investor and entrepreneur), speeches from leading investors and industry players, EIS and tax planning seminars, and so on)
• An opportunity to register on our database to receive details of investment opportunities for consideration

Critchleys have joined forces with the Finance South East Investor Network, a SEEDA based regional funding organisation with an impressive track record of successful angel investments.
The collaboration between the Critchleys Business Angel Community and the Finance South East Investor Network improves the ability of both entities to bring together potential angel funding with suitable investment opportunities of all stages of development.
This event will take place on 10 May from 16:15 and will include pitches from up to six companies seeking inward investment. Each company will give a 10 minute presentation followed by the opportunity for questions. All of the companies presenting will be available for more detailed one on one discussions afterwards. This is a regular series of events being held in Oxford every six weeks.
